Kelli's Sailing Caribbean Adventure!

I have always loved cruising. As a kid, my family cruised every year for our vacation. As an adult and a travel agent, I have traveled on hundreds of cruise ships and river cruises and loved every minute of seeing the world by water. The one type of cruising that I have always been unfamiliar with is sailboat cruising.

I had the opportunity to go on a 3 day Caribbean sailing with Star Clipper on their Star Flyer ship. We departed from Saint Martin and sailed to St. Kitts, St. Barths and back.

We boarded the ship and fell in love with the size and charm of the vessel. That evening, we participated in the glorious raising of the sails . We all gathered on deck and waited for the event to happen. The music swelled and so did the sails! It was such a beautiful site to witness.

The ship offered unique activities while onboard and in port. Climbing to the mast at the top of the ship. Visiting the open bridge to visit with the captain. Water sports while in port. All in an intimate and true to sailing manner.

Our first port was St. Kitts. I had never visited this island and could not wait for my tour of the stunning Park Hyatt St. Kitts. My breath was taken away at the beauty of this new resort which only opened just over a year ago. The entrance with its clean lines of marble and koi ponds immediately made me take a deep breath to take in the serenity of this hotel. We enjoyed a fresh seafood lunch at the open air Fisherman’s Village and took a dip at the beautiful adult only pool. (They also have a Lagoon pool that is fun for everyone!) Each room at this resort has an ocean view and some feature plunge pools on the balconies. The tones in the rooms are muted featuring the stunning colors of the ocean from the floor to ceiling windows. They also offer a kids program making it a good location for families to vacation.

The following day, we docked in one of our favorite ports, St. Barths. We spent the day enjoying lunch and sunshine at the popular Nikki Beach. This is a don’t miss location for a cruise ship stop. The atmosphere is hip, the food delicious and the beach is stunning.
